Day 171 – The rain force field holds

13th February: Kampot, Cambodia

It’s a good job we’ve fashioned a way to get the mosquito net up again. Every time I woke up in the night, there was the telltale high pitched whine nearby. We did both get a few bites standing in the hotel lobby for a few minutes last night though.

Today turned into another chilling and booking day. Kaja wasn’t feeling good, so we stayed in the cool room for most of the day. I had a bit of a blitz, getting on top of planning that I’d wanted to do for a while. That felt good! The hotel makes good coffee, which always helps.

I wandered out to get us some lunch of falafel wraps and pide, which were a throwback to an earlier part of this trip! Of course, we also had a mango smoothie each from a very interesting guy. He insisted on telling me how the politics in different Western countries was just like Yes Minister (which apparently is popular today in Cambodia?!).

The forecast showed a chance of showers again today, but once again our force field held strong. It’s about 80 days since we saw any rain at all now. A few days before coming to Kampot, it looked like we’d get torrential rain for days here, but this has stayed just to the east.

Given it was still dry, I popped out for another walk along the river to watch the sunset and picked us up a lovely Khmer curry for dinner from the street market. I even treated myself to a local Angkor Beer too after such a productive day!
